About us
swissvacuum is the Swiss association dedicated to vacuum physics and technology and their applications. It has existed since 1953 under the name “Swiss Society for Vacuum Science and Technology” (“Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Vakuumphysik und -technik” / “Société Suisse pour la Science et la Technique du Vide”). In 2001, the association adopted new statutes and, with them, the name “swissvacuum”.
The association promotes both fundamental and applied research. Its objectives are at university level, with an applied and technological focus, and encompass educational, professional development, and economic aspects.
The activities of swissvacuum include organizing and participating in national and international conferences. Lectures, symposia, and workshops are organized on a regular basis. In addition, we organize the Swiss Vacuum Course every two years.
The association is a member of IUVSTA (International Union of Vacuum Science, Technology and Applications). It regularly participates in IUVSTA activities, either through delegates serving on its governing committees or through representatives on the committees of the eight IUVSTA divisions:
- Applied Surface Science Division
- Electronic Materials & Processing Division
- Nanometer Structures Division
- Plasma Science & Technology Division
- Surface Engineering Division
- Surface Science Division
- Thin Film Division
- Vacuum Science and Technology Division
In Switzerland, the association is a member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) and actively participates in its activities. In addition, we work closely with other professional societies, including SVMT, SGO-SST, and SAOG.
